THE council has fitted bigger bins in some parks after complaints that the previous ones were "inadequate".
People complained that bins in the city's parks were too small, especially with more people using open spaces more often over the pandemic.
Brighton and Hove City Council committed £10,000 from the city budget in March for replacement bins at four parks in the city – Hove Park, Hove Recreation Ground, Greenleas Park and Knoll Park.
The council is also running a pilot as part of its bin infrastructure project, with Cityclean to install “on-the-go” recycling options at parks across the city.
Wish Park in Hove has been selected as a pilot for this work, with Cityclean to install triple bins the same as the bins on the seafront.
Dawn Barnett and Nick Lewry, Conservative councillors for Hangleton and Knoll, asked for the new bins to be put in.
Cllr Lewry said he hopes this is the “starting point” of further investment into Knoll Park.
He said: “This is a very well-used park which could use some more investment.
“It is used by dog walkers and people from Mill View Hospital go up for a coffee and a walk.
“It is also used by the Hangleton and Knoll Project which open up a café during the summer months in the building next to the youth football pitch and it is important that one of the new bins has been installed there.
“I am pleased with the new bins and they will help to keep the park tidier.
“We would like to see this as the starting point for some more investment in this community space going forward.
Cllr Barnett said: “As more people have used our local parks since the pandemic, it is important that the facilities are upgraded accordingly to meet demand.
“We would like to see some more investment in Knoll Park going forward and in particular some better facilities for younger children.”
Knoll Park was built in the 1950s and was formerly the site for Hudson’s Tip, a former rubbish dump. The park is used by Hangleton Bowls Club and also has football pitches and a children’s playground.
