A ROAD was closed both ways after a car crash this afternoon and an air ambulance airlifted one woman to hospital.
Two cars collided on the A259 by the golf club going into Eastbourne.
One woman received "serious injuries" and was airlifted to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
Traffic was said to be building while emergency services responded to the incident and the road is now clear.
An air ambulance arrived on the scene at around 3pm.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to the A259 East Dean Road, Eastbourne, around 1.50pm on Monday (December 20) to reports of a two-car collision.
"One woman was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for treatment to serious injuries.
"The road was closed temporarily to allow emergency services to respond to collision, but has since reopened."
