Mehmetaliogullari, from Hove, denied murder and poisoning during the hearing.
The 47-year-old will go on trial in May next year.
Mustafa, who had severe physical and mental disabilities, had been living with his mother at Eastview Terrace, Sedlescombe.
He died three days after being admitted for treatment.
Sussex Police said Mustafa was found to have drugs in his system which had not been prescribed to him.
"Police were informed and a post mortem and subsequent toxicology examination established that his death was due to administration of non-prescribed medication,” a police spokesman said.
Mehmetaliogullari was released on bail ahead of her trial which is set to last for two weeks.
