A SERIAL bike thief who stole people’s bicycles at train stations has been ordered to pay over £2,500 in compensation.
Derrik Simon Roye, 50, from Gladeside in Croydon, appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court for the thefts, which happened between October and November 2019.
The spate of thefts started on October 21, 2019, at Haywards Heath train station, when Roye stole a bicycle worth £799, belonging to a woman.
He then went on to steal three bicycles in a week and the wheels of one bike, starting with an £800 bicycle on November 12 from Haywards Heath train station.
Three days later, on November 15, he stole another bicycle from the same station worth £250, as well as the wheels from a bicycle which were worth £500, at Horley train station in Surrey on the same day.
On November 18, he stole a bicycle worth £330 from Haywards Heath train station.
He had pleaded not guilty but later admitted the thefts at court. Roye was ordered to pay £2,679 in compensation, starting from October this year, and discharged conditionally for six months.
