PARTS of the county saw a snow overnight as Storm Arwen brings wintery conditions across the UK.

Temperatures plummeted over the weekend and flurries were spotted across Sussex, including in parts of Brighton.

Petworth fire station, near Pulborough, called on people out and about last night to stay safe and tweeted a picture of a heavy snow falling and settling on the ground and on parked cars.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice for parts of West Sussex, urging members of the public to prepare a winter kit for their car and clear their path or driveway.

The organisation also warns people to expect some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, "making accidents more likely and journey times longer".

The snowfall comes after Storm Arwen brought blizzards and close to 100mph winds to parts of the country over the weekend.

Three people were killed and half a million households were left temporarily without power as the storm caused damage and disruption.

In the Yorkshire Dales, revellers at a the highest pub in Britain were stranded as snow drifts trapped them inside.

While temperatures will remain as low today in Brighton, they are set to bounce back to a high of 12C tomorrow.
