A POPULAR art exhibition is taking place this weekend showcasing more than 200 pieces of work.
The annual Adur Art Club exhibition is returning this week at Shoreham Community Centre to give its artists a chance to show their work for the first time since the pandemic.
Over 200 paintings will be displayed across Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 November, and all pieces are up for sale.
Lesley Tomlinson, from Brighton, is among those taking part, she said: "It's a very exciting opportunity for me to exhibit some of my paintings for the first time as there are many talented artists in the club."
The club was formed 50 years ago by artists Mollie Harvey, John Lingham, Ricky Hales and Ron Lines, who rented a small room in the Old School in Ham Road, Shoreham.
Gradually people began to take interest in the group and joined them, eventually this room became too small for the numbers, so the founding members decided they needed a larger venue to for the club.
It founds its home at the new Shoreham Community Centre in Pond Road and the four named the group the Adur Art Club.
Over the years the club became one of the most prestigious art clubs in Sussex, at one point having over 100 members of all ages enjoying painting in all medias.
The club meets every Thursday throughout the year, holds art demonstrations, and also make outings to venues of artistic interest.
During the pandemic the club had to shut down due to lockdown, most of the members have now returned to the club which is getting back on its feet.
The group is run by an active committee headed by the president Sally Cooper, an artist and member for over 40 years and the chairman, Wally James an artist who has been painting for for more than 35 years.
The club are very proud of the fact, that it is still running with many members returning to enjoy all the facilities during these difficult times.
Artists wishing to join Adur Art Club are welcome to come along and talk to the team this weekend.
