A MAJOR road has reopened after a lorry hit a bridge.
Police and emergency services were called to the scene of a collision on the A23 between Warninglid and Bolney shortly after midday.
The road was closed in both directions but it has since reopened after Highways England carried out an inspection.
Photos from the scene showed officers inspecting the road and long queues of traffic.
Sussex Police said in a statement: "The A23 has reopened in both directions following a collision involving a lorry and a bridge earlier this afternoon (Wednesday 3).
"Police and emergency services were called shortly after 12pm.
"The carriageway was closed in both directions and the A272 Cowfold Road was also closed while Highways England carried out an inspection.
"Checks have been completed and all roads have now reopened.
"We thank the public for their patience while officers responded to this incident."
