CASES of Covid-19 increased by 465 over the weekend, official figures have revealed.

A total of 34,873 people had been confirmed as testing positive for the virus in Brighton and Hove when figures were updated on Monday November 1.

The rate of infection in the city now stands at 11,954 cases per 100,000 people, which remains lower than the average for England at 13,674.

The number of recorded cases in England increased by 118,075 over the weekend, to over nine million.

There were no new deaths from coronavirus recorded in Brighton and Hove, with only one death reported in the past week.

The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Brighton and Hove.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death, so some areas might see their figures revised down.

Figures reported on a Monday are likely to be lower as a result of a lag in reporting deaths over the weekend.

Figures also show that only two-thirds of people in the city have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, with 193,723 people aged 12 or over by October 31.

This is significantly below the average for England, which stands at 79 per cent.

The latest figures come as covid deaths worldwide surpassed five million, although some health experts have said the true death toll from the disease could be far higher.

Nearly 250 million cases of the virus have been reported across the world.
