NEW food hygiene ratings have been awarded to dozens of restaurants in the city.

In October, 17 restaurants, pubs, bars, nightclub and food outlets have had their inspection results listed on Food Standards Agency’s website.

What do the numbers mean?

• Zero – Urgent improvement necessary. 

• One – Major improvements necessary. 

• Two – Improvements necessary. 

• Three – Generally Satisfactory. 

• Four – Good on assessment. 

• Five – Seen as very good. 

The following outlets received a rating of five:

• Village at 129 Islingword Road, Brighton; rated on October 9

• Elizabethan Tandoori Restaurant at 130-136 Old London Road, Brighton; rated on October 4

• The Flying Saucer Brighton Ltd at 5 Open Market, Marshalls Row, Brighton; rated on October 2

• Tivoli Cafe at 98 Reigate Road, Brighton; rated on October 2

• The Dock Hub Cafe at Suite 206, The Dock, Wilbury Villas, Hove

• Ancient Mariner at 59 Rutland Road, Hove

• Free Haus at 1 Howard Road, Brighton; rated on October 9

• Subway at 112 Church Road, Hove

• Little Jack Fullers at 102 St James'S Street, Brighton; rated on October 9

• Shakeaway at 8 Bond Street, Brighton, East Sussex; rated on September 30
