VEHICLES have been stranded after flooding.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue have warned road users to “be prepared” amid flooding in parts of the county.
In a statement, the fire service said: “Attention Pevensey and Eastbourne – a flood warning/alert has been issued for your area.”
In West Sussex, pictures show vehicles stranded in flood water in the village of Ashington.
An image taken by Tim Clarke shows a car and a van stuck in water under an overpass, with water over the bonnet of the car.
Another car can also be seen on the back of a removal truck.
Earlier today, the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rainfall.
The warning covers large swathes of the UK, with most of southern England set to be affected.
Areas in Sussex which were expected to be hit hardest included Brighton, Hastings, Eastbourne, Worthing, Uckfield, Arundel and Chichester.
This warning came into play at around 4pm and will last until 3am on Thursday, October 21.
It is also expected that a yellow warning will be issued for around a similar time on Thursday.
The Met Office said to expect some spray and flooding on roads, interruption of power supplies, bus and train services to be affected and the flooding of homes and businesses to be likely.
A Met Office spokesman said: "An area of heavy rain reaching southwest England late Wednesday afternoon spreads eastwards across southern England, reaching the far southeast of England by mid-evening.
"Rain will last for around six hours in any location, finally clearing southeast England during the early hours of Thursday.
"Rain may be accompanied by coastal gales and, in a few places, thunder. 15 to 25 mm of rain is widely expected with 30 to 50 mm possible in a few places."
