ALBION fans are not happy amid the rumours Newcastle United are reportedly targeting Graham Potter as Steve Bruce’s replacement following the takeover of the club.

The Magpies were sold by long-time owner Mike Ashley last week to a Saudi-backed consortium for a fee of around £305 million.

The new owners wealth mean Newcastle United are now the richest football club in the world.

Following the takeover, Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter has reportedly been identified as a candidate for the club.

According to The Sun, Potter has been identified as a candidate and the Magpies will attempt to prise him away from the Amex.

However, Albion fans were quick to take to social to play down the rumours.

“They can target all they like,” one fans said. “The absurd notion that Graham Potter would take the Newcastle job.”

Another highlighted why they felt the Seagulls head coach would never make the switch.

“Potter builds teams, he doesn’t buy them,” he said. “Newcastle would be a terrible fit for him with the demand for instant results and the likelihood of being sacked after the first bad run.”

Another added: “Hands off our manager.”

One fan even poked fun at the ever-growing list of managers being linked with the Newcastle United managerial role.

He said: “He is the 232nd manager to be linked with the job.”

Potter was appointed as Seagulls boss in 2019 to replace Chris Hughton.

Albion currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League table and have the second-best defensive record in the division, having conceded just five times this season.

Bruce has kept Newcastle United in the division in his two seasons at St James’ Park after replacing Rafa Benitez, but is yet to guide his side to a win this campaign.

Newcastle United currently sit in 19th place in the league table.
