A PETROL station did not close due to staff being abused, Asda has revealed.

There was reports today that Asda’s Brighton Marina petrol station had shut its doors due to staff receiving abuse from some customers.

However, a spokesman for Asda has said that this is not the case.

The spokesman said: “I can confirm that the Brighton Marina petrol station will be opening again in due course after closing to help manage the flow of traffic into the marina, and has not been closed due to colleagues being the victims of abuse or violence from customers.”

The reports came from a gossip page where somebody said they have suffered “abuse and tantrums”.

Over the last week, there has been reports of violence and verbal abuse between customers and towards forecourt staff members.

Earlier in the week, Gordon Balmer, executive director for the Petrol Retailers Association (PRA) said that while there are signs that fuel shortages are easing, he also described abuse towards staff as “unacceptable”.

“There are encouraging signs that the crisis at the pumps is easing, with forecourts reporting that they are taking further deliveries of fuel,” he said.

“However, we are extremely disappointed to hear many forecourt staff are experiencing a high level of both verbal and physical abuse, which is completely unacceptable.”
