A FAMILY-RUN vegan mayonnaise brand has won two stars at this year’s Great Taste Awards.
BeSaucy was awarded for their vegan black truffle mayonnaise, which was described as “very enjoyable and potentially versatile” by judges, and for its vegan garlic mayo, praised for being “glossy, thick textured, smooth and rich”.
The family business was founded only three months ago by the same team behind the now-closed BeFries restaurant in West Street, Brighton, which was known for its range of dips.
The sibling trio launched three vegan mayonnaises earlier this year, which are now available in 40 stores across Sussex and London.
Chan Beevers, who founded the business with siblings Dashal and Ezda, spent years developing the range and was overjoyed at the awards.
He said: “We are over the moon. Sharing our love of food is what we are all about as a family, so these awards mean a lot to us.
“We hope more people get to try our mayos, taking their food to the next level with BeSaucy.”
Each of the sauces is made from a base of aquafaba, organic soya milk, and cold-pressed rapeseed oil, produced from a family-run farm in the Cotswolds.
The team aims to bring their vegan mayos to the wider market to be used as a versatile ingredient, as well as a condiment, and offer an easy alternative for non-vegans.
Speaking to The Argus in July, Dashal said that he hoped BeSaucy can help fulfil the growing demand for vegan and vegetarian food in a sustainable and environmentally-friendly way.
He said: “We believe in offering tasty alternatives that benefit the environment and that everyone can enjoy.
“Funnily enough, most people who try our sauces don’t even realise they’re vegan.”
The team previously won another two stars at the awards event in 2018 for their vegan basil sauce.
The company is looking to expand their range with further combinations in the future.
