A COUNCIL has said it is investigating after a woman found fly eggs on chicken wings she had ordered from Domino’s.
Kat Lecheminant-Pay told The Argus that she felt “disgusted” when the food she had ordered from the London Road branch in August arrived covered in fly eggs.
Takeaway giant Domino's said it has examined the wings and confirmed fly eggs were found.
It has apologised to the family and says it takes food hygiene "very seriously".
However Kat, who lives in Hanover, contacted the Environmental Health Service at Brighton and Hove City Council after being left “dissatisfied” with Domino’s response.
A council spokesman confirmed that food safety officers visited the branch on September 1 after receiving Kat’s complaint.
He said: “It would be inappropriate to comment further while an investigation is ongoing.
“We take all complaints very seriously and work hard with our local businesses to ensure the highest possible food hygiene standards are met and that they are doing everything reasonably expected to keep food safe for consumption.”
Domino’s in London Road was given a food hygiene rating of five based on its last inspection in March 2019.
Five is the highest possible score and means inspectors found that food hygiene standards are "very good".
Kat spent £45 on the meal as a treat for her sons, eight-year-old Leighton or nine-year-old Riley.
She told The Argus that she is grateful to have spotted the fly eggs on the chicken wings before either of her children ate one.

She said: “We tucked into the pizza, and we usually eat the wedges and chicken wings last.
“I opened up the chicken wings and that’s when I saw it.
“I know what fly eggs look like. I used to have a cat that would leave its food all the time and if flies went on it, they laid eggs and that’s how I know.
“I threw the wing back into the box and I felt so sick.
“Everything is meant to be made fresh, but you just never know. I’m a bit worried.”
A spokeswoman from Domino's said: "As a Domino’s store rated five stars in a recent Food Standards Agency review, we take food hygiene seriously.
"Our Technical team have examined the customer’s chicken wings and confirmed these were fly eggs.
"We have conducted additional team training to ensure a rare contamination of this nature doesn’t happen again."
"Following a positive conversation with the customer we have refunded her the order as well as offering her vouchers as a gesture of goodwill.
"We hope she’ll give us another go in the future."
