Police say the woman was injured while trying to intervene in a “tussle” between two dogs.
She was taken to hospital for treatment for the wound.
The incident came a week after police were called to a house in Crowborough after reports of a dog attack in a garden.
Officers attended a property in Hoadleys Lane on September 3.
Police said a woman was taken to hospital with potentially life changing injuries after the attack.
"The dog was contained in the garden with the support of the National Police Air Service helicopter, and was later seized by officers,” a Sussex Police spokeswoman said.
