A HISTORIC lido is set to host the return of a much-loved event which allows dogs to enjoy the pool - and it's set to be bigger than ever.
Saltdean Lido has announced it will be hosting its annual Dog Swim Weekend for fifth year. This time there will be an additional weekend and sessions to accommodate demand.
This years event will is being sponsored by Yora - a nutritious new pet food company - and will run for three consecutive three weekends this September.
The event starts this weekend and will continue on September 18 and 19, as well as the 25 and 26. On each day, there will be four 90 minute sessions run throughout the day.
September 11 – 9 am, 1 pm, 3 pm and 5 pm.
September 12 – 9.30 am, 11.30 am, 3 pm and 5 pm.
September 18 – 9 am, 11 am, 3 pm, and 5 pm.
September 19 – 9.30 am, 11.30 am, 3 pm and 5 pm
September 25 – 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm and 5 pm.
September 26 – 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm.
The event is expected to welcome over 2,000 dogs along with their owners and spectators, due to the high demand the organisers have included a variety of specific sessions.
September 11, the 11 am session will consist of over 150 golden retrievers from the Kent and Sussex Golden Retriever Group.
September 12 and 19, for the Sunday 1:30 pm sessions, the Lido will host hour-long quiet sessions for dogs that are nervous and smaller.
September 18, the 1 pm session will be for small dogs that weigh less than ten kilograms.
Jules Shepherd, Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company director, said: "Year on year, our annual - and hugely anticipated - dog swim weekends have seen doggie attendance grow exponentially.
"This year, numbers have continued to rise with over 2,000 furry four-legged friends coming along for fun in the pools from all over the UK.
"All the pups have access to both the main 40-metre pool – which will be heated to around 25 degrees - and, for those less thrill-seeking, the paddling pool - with a slide – and the secure Lido grassy grounds to have a run and playtime in.
"Of course, our lifeguards will be on duty to help the human swimmers only, with owners having full responsibility for their dogs."
All profits from the event will be put towards the Saltdean Lido restoration fund to restore the Grade Two Art Deco building.
