TWO beaches in Sussex have been voted among the top ten British seaside resorts.
Hastings and Worthing placed tenth and sixth respectively in the poll of over 2,500 people by McCarthy and Stone.
Worthing, described by the company as “a traditional seaside town with a modern twist”, was also given the title of the UK’s best pier.
McCarthy and Stone said Worthing Pier is “the focal point of the seafront, with a stunning Art Deco pavilion, stained glass and all the usual pier-side amusements, like an old-fashioned penny arcade, cafe and fairground.”
Hastings was praised for its Edwardian hotels and its pride in its heritage and history.
However, Sussex’s seafront escapes were beaten to the top spot by Salcombe in Devon.
Other resorts in the South East featuring in the top ten were Deal in Kent and Shanklin in the Isle of Wight.

The poll comes as more than two-thirds of Britons remain wary of travelling abroad and opting for staycations in the UK instead.
However, greater demand for accommodation at UK resorts has seen prices spike compared with before the pandemic, with a BBC Panorama investigation uncovering that the cost of holidaying in Brighton has almost doubled since the summer of 2019.
