GOOD news for dog-owners for National Dog Day today... East Sussex is among the best staycation spots for our four-legged friends.
A recent study by Dog Friendly Cottages found that the county is the "pawfect" location for boxers and German shorthaired pointers, with the proximity to the coast best suited to these breeds.
Dog psychologist George Barrett said: “These breeds are active dogs that like the outdoors but can differ in their preferences towards water.
“Adaptable to any terrain as well as busy places, they will take long walks when they’re healthy.
“The bustling town of Rye is a great option for boxers and German shorthaired pointers.
"Comfortable among the buzz, they will also enjoy a stroll along the cobbled streets.”
Matt Fox, founder and CEO of Dog Friendly Cottages, said he has seen a 415 per cent increase in bookings compared with the same period in 2019, suggesting many are taking their pooches on staycations across the UK following lockdowns across the country.
Research by the company also found that German shepherds are most at home in Northumberland and Yorkshire, pugs like Norfolk and Devon, while Cornwall is the go-to destination for golden retrievers, cocker spaniels, whippets, and many other breeds.
