A SPECIALLY trained team were called in to investigate fears of a "chemical substances" inside a car where a man was found dead.
Police were called to Marley Lane, Battle, around 5pm on Monday to report of a man found dead in a car.
It was thought there may have been hazardous chemical substances in the vehicle, and the road was closed while specially-trained emergency services attended the scene.
Pictures taken from the road, which links the A21 with the A210, showed firefighters unravelling hoses in the lane as darkness fell.
Officers from Sussex Police were also seen at the incident, with one patrol car enforcing the road closure.
However, it was later confirmed that no hazardous chemicals inside the car.
A spokesman from Sussex Police said: “Police were called to Marley Lane, Battle, around 5pm on Monday to a report of a man found deceased in a car
“It was thought there may have been hazardous chemical substances in the vehicle, and the road was closed while specially-trained emergency services attended the scene.
“It was later confirmed that no hazardous chemicals were detected and there is no danger to the wider public.
“Enquiries are ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.”
