Firefighters were called to Kings Esplanade, Hove on Tuesday evening after receiving reports of a bin fire.

An image of the bin taken in the aftermath shows that its front was destroyed by the flames.

A spokeswoman said: “On 3rd August at 20:25, we attended a bin fire on Kings Esplanade, Hove.

“Firefighters from Hove attended and used a jet hose to extinguish a bin fire.”

Earlier this year, a seafront bin went up in flames after a disposable barbecue caught fire.

The fire service issued a warning to anyone using disposable barbecues in public.

It read: "We urge anyone using barbecues to use plenty of water on it once you’ve finished cooking and allow it to cool completely before disposing of it.

"If you are in public, you should also check whether you are actually allowed to use a BBQ at all as they can easily cause a fire, endangering lives and property."
