A COUNCIL is making £120,000 available to local businesses to help increase the number of apprenticeships.
Brighton and Hove City Council are receiving the funds from the apprenticeship levy transfer scheme, and it will be accessible for eligible employers to take on new apprentices and develop existing employees.
The money can be bid for now by businesses and employers. However, the deadline for bidding is August 18.
The council’s apprenticeships team will allocate the funding from September based on the bids received.
Eligible employers will be non-levy payers - enterprises whose wage bills are less than £3 million per annum - based in Brighton and Hove.
They must be in one of the following categories:
- Businesses and other organisations
- The voluntary, community and social enterprise sector
- Schools in the city that do not pay into the council’s apprenticeship levy
Employers who apply for apprenticeship funding are expected to support the aims of Brighton and Hove’s City Employment and Skills Recovery Plan.
Alternatively, businesses and employers will need to show how the levy funding will support at least one of the following:
- Redundant apprentices or progression from kick-start placements.
- The recovery of their business from covid-19.
- The city’s aim is to be carbon neutral by 2030.
