SEVERAL flood warnings are in place across Sussex after a months worth of rain fell in only a few hours.
Flooding is expected at The River Uck and Buxted, near Uckfield, after 50mm fell at the top of the Uck catchment on Sunday afternoon.
The flooding could affect fields, rural roads, gardens and riverside properties through Buxted, near the White Hart pub and areas around Hempstead Mill on Hempstead Lane, Uckfield, the government warned.
Only a small amount of rain is forecasted next week and so the river should return to normal by this afternoon.
Those living nearby have been urged to take proactive action to help reduce the impact of flooding.
A government spokesman said: "Light rain should clear the area by 11:00pm and the river should begin to fall by 02:00am on Monday in Buxted.
"Only small amounts of rain are forecast next week so the river should return to normal Monday afternoon.
"Please take proactive action to help reduce the impact of flooding.
"Flood protection products are recommended to be installed if you have them.
"We will continue to monitor the river levels and forecasts."
