PEOPLE are being warned not to use inflatables in the sea ahead of the weekend heatwave.
Brighton and Hove City Council is asking beachgoers to take care when heading to the beach after strong offshore winds were forecast.
A spokesman said: “We are very grateful to see some sunshine on our beaches.
“This weekend we have strong offshore winds, which means if you stand-up paddleboard or kayak out please wear a life-jacket, attach yourself to the board or kayak with a leash, let someone know where you area heading and keeping children supervised at all times.
“We want you to enjoy the beaches safely so please respect the water and our lifeguard’s advice.
“Swim between the flags.”
If, against guidance, people do decide to use inflatables, there are recommendations to follow.
Ensure children are closely supervised and keep near the shore.
Only use inflatables between the red and yellow beach flags and follow the lifeguards’ advice.
Do not take them out in big waves or when the orange windsock is flying and if you get into difficulty, stay with your inflatable as it will keep you above the water.
