A COUNCILLOR wants the NHS to take the opportunity to provide a new vaccination site to help fight against Covid-19.
Conservative Cllr Sam Adeniji, the Seaford town councillor for Sutton Ward, wants there to be a new Covid-19 vaccination or testing site in Seaford, similar to a site in a Newhaven car park.
On June 24, a walk-in vaccine centre for those over 40 was held in Lower Place Car Park in Newhaven. However, Seaford Town, District, and County councillor Mr Adeniji is concerned that nothing similar is being done in Seaford.
Cllr Adeniji said: "As a Seaford councillor, throughout the pandemic, all the drop in and walk-in sessions along the coast have been in Peacehaven, Newhaven or Eastbourne.
"I am concerned that yet again, the local NHS appears to be ignoring the people of Seaford. Why should we have to travel to neighbouring towns for our health treatments, drop-in Covid-19 vaccinations or drop-in Covid-19 tests?
"Seaford has the largest population within the Lewes District and one of the largest towns along the coast, yet increasingly health services are being delivered in neighbouring towns at the expense of Seaford.
"Whilst I understand that certain services, for example, mass Covid-19 vaccinations, are best provided from a large central point, this is not an excuse for the local NHS not to provide these services locally here in Seaford where possible.
"It does appear that the NHS is always missing an opportunity to provide these services in Seaford. We welcome an opportunity for the NHS to arrange a drop-in Covid-19 vaccination centre or a drop-in test session in Seaford."
Cllr Adeniji has suggested that the baptist church in Belgrave Road or the leisure centre in Sutton Road would be suitable sites for a vaccination centre in Seaford.
