Aldi want ten new shops in East Sussex, including Brighton

The brand is now looking for sites in East Sussex, including Brighton, Eastbourne and Newhaven.

Aldi is targetting locations in town centres or on the edge of city centres that are suitable for development.

The supermarket chain is also looking at Bexhill, Crowborough, Hailsham, Hastings, Peacehaven, Portslade and Uckfield.

Aldi is after 1.5 acre sites that are able to accommodate 20,000 square foot stores, with 100 parking spaces.

Ciaran Aldridge, national property director at Aldi UK, said: "We have been investing in Britain for more than 30 years now, but we know that there are still areas that either do not have an Aldi at all, or that need another store to meet customer demand.

"Shoppers are increasingly looking to get unbeatable prices on their weekly shop without compromising on quality.

"That's why, more so than ever, we're keen to explore all opportunities to open new stores across the country."

The UK's fifth-largest supermarket has been opening roughly one store a week on average in recent years to meet demand from new customers.

Aldi now has more than 900 stores across the UK, employing 36,000 employees.

Research released by Which? in December showed doing a full shop at Aldi was 19.9 per cent cheaper than the same shop at Tesco.

It tracked the price of 22 essential items at the UK's eight biggest supermarkets throughout November 2020.
