A BOY has been arrested after an alleged sexual assault on Brighton beach.

The 16-year-old was arrested after police were called to the shingle near Brighton Palace Pier at 11.45pm last night.

Police responded to a report that a woman in her 20s had been sexually assaulted on the beach.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said yesterday afternoon: "Officers searched the area and a 16-year-old boy was arrested nearby ten minutes later on suspicion of sexual assault.

"He is currently in custody for interview and further enquiries."
