THERE was a strong police presence on the seafront this evening amid reports of a “large gathering” of school students.
Dozens of teenagers were seen gathering on Hove Lawns, and pictures show officers dispersing groups.
One passerby said: “There were loads of drunk Year 11 students as it’s their last day before GCSEs.
“There were a lot of police down there because of Covid.”
Another witness said they saw a girl “lying on the grass passed out” and surrounded by police officers.
Sussex Police have been contacted for comment.
Under current coronavirus restrictions, gatherings must not exceed 30 people unless covered by a legal exemption, such as for work or volunteering, or to provide care or assistance for disabled or vulnerable people.
