A VIGIL in memory of George Floyd is to take place outside a city centre police station tomorrow.
People are to gather outside Brighton Police Station in John Street at 12pm for the #SayTheirName memorial.
The socially distanced vigil has been organised by Brighton and Hove Stand up to Racism.
It is to mark the year anniversary of the murder of Mr Floyd, who was killed by police officer Derek Chauvin in the US state of Minnesota.
The event will also remember victims of police brutality in the UK.
A spokesman for the event said: “Brighton and Hove Stand Up to Racism have organised a #SayTheirNames memorial event at Brighton police station to mark the anniversary of the murder of George Floyd and to say the UK is not innocent.
“By remembering not only George Floyd but also those black, Asian and minority ethnic people who have died at the hands of the police over the past decades in Britain.”
The Brighton vigil is part of a nationwide series of events organised by Stand Up to Racism to remember Mr Floyd, who died on May 25, 2020.
An online event is also being held tomorrow, with anti-racist and justice campaigners from Britain and the United States set to take part.
The murder of Mr Floyd sparked a wave of global protests and a massive upsurge in support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
But Stand Up To Racism say that “structural racism and police violence is far from over.”
