WHAT a night. Albion fans were in celebratory mood as they flocked back to the Amex on Tuesday for the first time in many months to watch their beloved team take on Manchester City.
At long last the buzz was back.
One excited supporter told The Argus ahead of the match: “We don’t even care if we lose 10-0.”
But of course the 3-2 victory meant the evening was sweeter than ever.
Eight thousand fans were allowed into the game and even though Covid restrictions were ever-present – social distancing, masks and no half-time pints – it was a magical occasion.
Argus sports writer Brian Owen, who has become used to reporting from empty stadiums, was delighted to see the fans and said it felt, at last, like a proper match.
He said: “They certainly brought excitement, noise, passion and urgency to the occasion.
“In return, their favourite team gave them endeavour, no little skill and a buzz you can’t get from watching at home.
“Albion’s home game with Manchester City meant nothing of major importance in terms of the Premier League table.
“In many respects it meant everything to those who attended, those they cheered on out in the middle and those watching from home.”
