THIS great crowd scene is at the bottom of South Street opposite the Marine Hotel in Worthing.
It is thought this was a visit from the Duke of Kent in 1933 – he was there to open the new town hall.
The men in white caps could be members of The Corps of Commissionaires, who were veterans of the Armed Forces employed as security guards.
Check out these snappily dressed “sailors” on board a boat at Kingston Wharf, Shoreham, in the late Thirties.
The arches in the background were used by trains to collect and deliver goods to ships coming into Shoreham. They were demolished in about 1980 to widen the road and because the railway was no longer used.
Our final picture shows the toll bridge at the River Adur in Shoreham in about 1955. Note Lancing College in the background.
Sixty years on, in 2015, this is the area that became a shrine to the 11 men who died in the Shoreham Airshow disaster.
