A WOMAN was sent "flying several yards" into the air after being hit by a car in Hove yesterday.
The pedestrian was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with a serious injury after the collision in Portland Road.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 3.15pm, following reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.
The injured pedestrian remains in hospital following the incident on Portland Road.
Writing on Twitter, one man who claimed to see the accident said the woman was "screamed in agony on the kerb" after being hit.
Witness Christopher Hawtree said the street would benefit from being turned into a 20mph zone with additional lights.
Sussex Police are appealing to witness who may have seen the collision to come forward.
A spokesman said: "Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting serial 819 of 04/05."
