A BEST-SELLING author and television presenter will be bringing his show to a comedy festival next month.
Dave Chawner looks at unsung heroes and underdogs in the show which will feature at The Brighton Fringe.
The comedian is excited to bring the event to the Fringe as coronavirus restrictions are eased and we are allowed to kick back and laugh at comedy nights once again.
Underdog will be staged at The Quadrant in North Street from May 28 to June 20, so there will be plenty of time to catch him.
He said his show reminds us how “not all heroes wear capes” and said: “It is a timely show all about dogs, defeat and determination.
“It looks at overcoming adversity, learning from failure and taking inspiration from man’s (and woman’s) best friend.
“People need a laugh right now, but it’s incredibly difficult to get the word out there as The Brighton Fringe has already rescheduled twice.”
Dave has been described as “hilariously entertaining” by the Mail on Sunday and “quirky, moving and hilarious” by Indy 100.
He said his show argues that dogs are better than humans and cites his reasons.
Dave said: “For example, a dog never ask you to lose weight, earn more money or get that
promotion.
“There are male and female working dogs, but there’s no gender pay gap.
“The nearest any dog has ever got to chemical warfare is breaking wind and walking off in disgust.”
He hopes his show is one which will make us all laugh as well as think.
Dave has previously written articles for The Guardian, The Telegraph and Metro newspapers and for GQ and Cosmopolitan magazines.
His presenting work has included shows on the BBC, and he has also appeared on BBC Breakfast, ITV’s Lorraine, Radio 1, Radio 2 and Radio 4’s Today Programme.
Dave’s book “Weight Expectations” is about his recovery from anorexia and reviewers say he showed “tongue-in-cheek charm and humour” while being an “impactful and entertaining read”.
The shows start with 7pm slots at The Quadrant, near Brighton Clock Tower in North Street, on May 28, 29 and 30.
He also has 7pm shows on June 5 and 6, and he has 5pm shows on June 12, 19 and 20.
