THERE will be disruption to some rail services on Sussex lines over the bank holiday and weekends throughout next month while improvement works take place.
Upgrades to the south London track mean there will be no trains running in or out of London Victoria over all five weekends in May, and two Sundays in June.
Most trains will be diverted to London Bridge as major signalling and track upgrades continue on lines into London Victoria.
Major work to improve accessibility at Gatwick Airport station is also underway, with track realignment and platform strengthening activity to allow wider platforms, more lifts, escalators and stairs to be installed.
There will be no trains running between London Victoria and East Croydon on all weekends in May, including both bank holidays, and on Sunday, June 6 and Sunday, June 27.
People are asked to follow government guidance on the use of public transport and minimise the number of journeys they make, where possible.
Shaun King, route director for Sussex said: “The work we’re undertaking over the May bank holiday and beyond will result in passengers enjoying even more reliable and comfortable journeys in the future.
"I’d like to thank passengers for their patience while we carry out our work and remind them to check their journeys in advance to see how they may be affected.”
Chris Fowler, customer services Director for Southern, said: “As more people return to the railway, we’d advise everyone to use our online tools to plan your route and check the busiest services before you travel.
"Please travel at a quieter time if you can.
“You can rest assured we’re working round the clock to keep trains and stations clean and safe - please remember you still need to wash your hands often, wear a face covering and keep your distance.”
