PREDATOR rapists, jealous abusers, and dangerous drivers were among those jailed last month.
Defendants appeared in our crown courts for a variety of shocking offences and were sent to prison for their crimes in Sussex.
Among them was child rapist Christopher Brock, 67, who was found guilty of sex attacks on three girls in the 1980s and 1990s.
The crimes had a devastating impact, with one victim saying Brock had robbed her of her childhood.
The judge told him: “On most of the occasions your victims were just little girls. They were entitled to be protected from harm but instead you used them one after another to satisfy your sexual lust.
“You robbed them off their childhoods and of their innocence. You were unable to control your sexual urges despite the risk of getting caught. This heightened your sexual thrill.”
Brock, of Coolham Road, Thakeham, near Pulborough, will serve two thirds of his 13-year sentence before he can be considered for parole.
Meanwhile Ian Ellingford, a former school caretaker in Brighton, was also convicted of rape.
The 51-year-old abused an “incredibly vulnerable” teenage young woman with learning difficulties.
It was revealed how he had threatened her she would be abducted if she ever told anyone about what was happening.
The judge said: “Behind the friendliness was a sexual interest. She had no idea what you were planning for her.
“On the first occasion you disabled security cameras and removed her clothing. She froze as you performed oral sex and raped her. She felt trapped and didn’t know what to do.
“Over the next two years you contrived to become more and more involved in her life, turning up uninvited to give her lifts home. You invaded yourself into her life and those of her family and friends.
“Later you made her believe that she would disappear if she told anybody what was going on. You said you had friends who could take her away. That threat left its mark. Whenever she saw a van, she was terrified, thinking she was going to be abducted.”
Ellingford, of Ripe Lane, Firle, near Lewes, was caged for 12 years for the sex attacks.
Abdullah Rahman was in court for two sexual assaults on women in Brighton. He exposed himself to one woman and groped her breasts, asking her for sex.
Minutes later he groped another woman’s buttock.
The 39-year-old Bangladeshi asylum seeker was drunk on alcohol given to him by friends and said he was deeply ashamed of his behaviour.
Rahman, of Grantley Street, Tower Hamlets, was jailed for 18 weeks.
Thug Steven Stewart appeared in court over a scrap in Eastbourne town centre.
The enraged 36-year-old ignored friends pleading with him to calm down, and attacked Lee Grover in the face and over the head with a smashed bottle.
Stewart has previously been convicted of robbery and for wounding.
Then in an incident in March last year Stewart drove off at speed away from police officers.
He shouted: “I have a grenade by my backside and I’m going to pull the pin.”
Stewart said he would take out a “contract” on the officers and told them he had a knife as he held his arm behind his back.
The officers then Tasered him.
Stewart, of Maxfield Close, Eastbourne Old Town, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, dangerous driving, failing to provide a breath test, driving while banned, and using threatening words or behaviour.
He was jailed for seven years and eight months.
Obsessive Paul Upfold, 36, was jailed for coercive and controlling behaviour in a relationship, and for stalking.
He also attempted to pervert the course of justice by using his partner’s email account to write to the police in a bid to get the charges dropped.
The judge said his behaviour was “domineering”, “manipulative” and “obsessive”.
Upfold, formerly of Chiltern Close, Crawley, was caged for two years and six months.
David Nolan, 24, hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons over his racist tirade on board an Easyjet flight from Egypt to Gatwick.
He abused his own pregnant partner, then launched a volley of horrendous abuse towards other passengers.
The judge said: “You were the type of passenger that all air passengers dread. Drunk, aggressive, racist, and violent.”
Nolan, of Court Mead, Northolt, Ealing, was jailed for 16 months for two counts of racist harassment and one count of being drunk on board an aircraft.
Another abuser who appeared in court was Craig Wallace, who has a long history of violence and abusive behaviour.
The 29-year-old was convicted of making threats to kill his former partner and their baby daughter in Crawley.
He had left her for another woman in Bournemouth, but then wanted the former partner to take him back.
When she refused, he left her terrified with threats to attack her.
Wallace, of Windham Road, Bournemouth, was jailed for four years and six months.
Finally dangerous driver Jack Davies was jailed after leading police on a 100mph chase through Brighton and Hove.
The disqualified driver was behind the wheel of a hire car and sped through the streets to get away from officers.
He eventually crashed on the A27.
Davies, formerly of Alfriston Road, Seaford, admitted dangerous driving, driving without valid insurance, driving while banned, failing to stop and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
Judge Arnold told Davies: “You not only put your own life at risk, but also that of your passenger, the police trying to stop you, and the public.”
She jailed him for one year.
