VIDEO captures the moment a man wielding a baseball bat confronted a group of youths before they chased him down the street.

Police were called to reports of a fracas between about 30 youths and a man, believed to be in his 50s, in Kingsway, Hove, at about 8pm on Friday, April 24.

In the video, shared widely on social media, a man can be seen wearing a grey tracksuit and holding a baseball bat as he speaks to a group of teenagers on Hove Lawns.

He is then dragged away by a woman.

But when his back was turned, one of the teenagers appears to punch him in the head before running off back to his friends.

Screaming and heckling can be heard as a beer can is thrown at the man and woman on the A259 seafront road.

The Argus:

The man turns around and shouts back at the group of youths before being pulled away by the woman once again.

As the pair walk up Second Avenue, someone can be heard calling the police.

Shortly after this, the youths start running after the pair, bringing traffic to a halt as they cross the road.

The Argus:

The woman making the 999 call says: “There’s a man with a baseball bat and he is fighting a bunch of f****** teenagers.

“We’re at the end of Second Avenue and they’re all going after him now.”

It is not known what happened afterwards.

Sussex Police are looking for people to come forward with information.
