DONATIONS have flooded in for a rugby player who suffered a horrific neck injury.

James Lasis from Haywards Heath suffered a cervical dislocation in his neck while playing for Stade Nicois. The 25-year-old was part of a scrum that collapsed, causing his injury.

Currently in Nice University Hospital in France undergoing treatment, James is unable to talk. James’s mother, Judy Lasis, has said that he is able to communicate through winking and is fully conscious. His family is planning to arrive in Nice at midday on Friday to visit him.

Judy told the Argus: “He’s doing well, he is going in for further surgery on the joint in his neck on Friday morning. This will help stabilise things should he start to move as he is already showing signs of some movement in his shoulders.

“He’s still on assisted breathing and tube fed and of course in intensive care.”

A JustGiving page has been set up for James and it has already almost reached it’s donation target of £15,000. The money raised will go towards medical costs and relevant care facilities that are required.

Any money that is raised over the required amount will be donated to the Matt Hampson foundation. Stade Nicois have also set up a fundraiser for James and will be creating a montage of supporting messages.
