There have been reports of vulnerable victims being taken to their bank by the conmen in Sussex.
Officers believe a number of people in East Sussex have fallen victim, and want anyone who has been scammed to come forward.
Sussex Police also issued advice to people about fraudsters and unwanted services.
The force said: “Always ask to check their ID and if you’re not happy, don’t engage with them.
“Never give your bank details or transfer money to those you don’t know or trust, and never give your PIN number or other sensitive information to strangers.
“If you are in doubt about a situation, call police or a trusted friend or relative for advice.
“If something doesn’t sound right, don’t feel pressured to make a snap decision on matters relating to your finances. Take the time to do some research and trust your instincts.”
Anyone with information about recent incidents is asked to contact Sussex Police online or by calling 101 quoting serial 588 of 08/01.
