I HAVE just read the article on page 2 of today’s Argus (Thursday) regarding the cyclist who was seriously injured while riding along the A259 in Hove.
We are all aware that the situation with cyclists is an ongoing problem that is not going to disappear, unfortunately.
The motorist who caused the accident needs to be found and punished as he/she broke two laws that I know of.
Our city council has spent a fortune installing cycle lanes everywhere in accordance with the constant demands/requests of the campaigners.
Cycling is good for a person’s health and for the environment, so I don’t have a problem there.
However, the part of the article which made me livid was when I read was: “We have heard of drivers being aggressive and abusive to cyclists for not using the A259 cycle lanes, but there’s no legal obligation to do so.”
I therefore have a simple question. Why all the fuss about installing the lanes if they don’t have to be used? The money wasted on the lanes could be spent on more urgent issues.
A large proportion of cyclists have no respect for other road users and seem to think that the rules are not for them.
