A KNIFE and a gun loaded with "blanks" are understood to have been used during an incident near a college - and police say the "search remains ongoing".
Gunshots were heard outside Crawley College with armed police dispatched to the scene as staff and students were evacuated.
Two people have been injured and The Argus has been told that a teacher is among the victims.
Police have now confirmed that the pair are being treated for minor injuries and that "these are not gunshot wounds".
One man has been detained. However armed police remain on the scene and members of the public have been told to avoid the area.
Earlier today, a police spokesman said: "We have responded to reports of gunshot fire near Crawley College.
"One man has been detained at the scene.
"Staff and students are being evacuated from the college."
"Two people have suffered injuries, but these are not believed to be serious.
"Please stay away from the area."
