THIS wonderful Argus archive picture is Preston Park Avenue, Brighton, in about 1951.
The children seem to have collected some firewood from the tree felling. Speculation over the little girl’s uniform suggested it might have been nearby St Bernadette’s.
We love the doll’s pram – very much of the era.
Another great picture from the same time shows two men on motorised bikes in Upton Avenue, Southwick.

We don’t know what they are doing but the bikes are thought to be much older so maybe they were taking part in the London to Brighton run.
The men in our final picture are working hard near the Black Rock area of Brighton seafront.
This picture is also dated around 1951 and they may have been building the slope down to the marina from the top of the cliff.
