For our latest Behind The Lens feature we turn the spotlight on Fay Stebbings, 64, from Brighton, a long-time member of The Argus Camera Club.

When and why did you get into photography?
I’ve always had cameras but have never taken photography too seriously, although I did have some greyhound pictures published in The Sporting Life paper. I was working at the greyhound stadium in Hove at the time.

What do you love about taking pictures?
I’m passionate about the environment and animal rights, so I love landscapes, skies, plants, all animals, that sort of thing.
I’m a weather watcher and have had several shots chosen for the South Today weather reports.
Maybe one day I’ll make some money from it!

Where is your favourite place for taking pictures?
My favourite places to take photos are Woods Mill, Henfield, the windmills at Clayton and my own garden, which luckily for me is on the edge of the Downs.

But the first thing I look at when out is the sky, it’s always different, the beautiful clouds are just good to watch, one of my favourites is the one of virga clouds.

Horse shows and dog agility are all good practice for getting action shots.
What equipment do you use?
I now have a Canon Eos 77d, a sigma 17-70 and a Canon 70-300. I’d like to have a fixed 500mm one day.

Why did you join The Argus Camera Club and what do you like about it?
I joined after seeing it on Facebook.
Joining a club can be very helpful in seeing what can be done and often I’m left trying to figure out how a photo has been taken.

What tips or advice do you have for others who want to take up photography?
To anyone starting up, I’d say don’t worry about getting expensive cameras and lenses – remember, many a favourite photo has been taken on a mobile phone.
