BRIGHTON has been named the second most LGBT friendly city in the UK.
After missing out on top spot to London, Brighton beat the likes of Manchester, Edinburgh and Glasgow to be named the second most LGBT city in the rankings put together by make-up brand Jecca Blac.
The list was ordered by using several different categories to analyse the cities. The gender free makeup brand looked at the number of LGBT supporting events, establishments, business and venues. The brand also looked at statistics on LGBT population and pride attendance.
The top 5 took this order:
1. London
2. Brighton
3. Manchester
4. Edinburgh
5. Glasgow
Country wise the United Kingdom was further down the list finishing eighth. Canada was named as the world’s most friendly LGBT country, while Sweden, Austria and Argentina were some of the other countries that made the top ten.
Upon the research by YouGov, Jecca Blac found that one in five LGBT people have experienced a hate crime or incident due to their sexual orientation and/or gender identity in the last 12 months.
Furthermore, one in six have been discriminated against when visiting a café, restaurant, bar or nightclub. There were also findings that 29 per cent of LGBT people will avoid certain streets due to fear.
