PRIMARK fans are now queueing in the road as shoppers take over the pavement of an entire street waiting their turn to enter the store.

Non-essential shops and pub gardens are allowed to open across the UK today meaning fans of the store have been given the first opportunity of the year to browse its wares.

But the huge queue to enter the Brighton city centre Primark now stretches the entire length of Crown Street – a dead end – and back down to Western Road.

Posting a picture of the incident online, Tom Rooke said: “Primark queue going down the actual road in Brighton.

“Zero social distancing, people shoulder to shoulder practically on top of each other.

"How is this allowed to happen on day one?”

Earlier this morning, one shopper described the store’s opening as being “like Christmas”.

The Argus:

In September, The Argus reported how frustrated residents in Crown Street were thinking about selling their homes due to the nuisance.

The number of people allowed in the store has been limited due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As a result, large queues of shoppers are directed up the road while they wait their turn to enter the fashion retailer.

But residents in the street said they were at their wits’ end, claiming some shoppers were not socially distancing, blocking entrances to properties, dropping cigarette butts and setting off car alarms.

“Some of us have wanted to sell our houses, but we have no chance with Primark allowing queues like this,” resident Richy Charles said.
