WHAT a great picture – a packed Withdean Stadium in about 1960.
This place has been the home of many events over the years – football, rugby, American football, athletics, school sports days and much more.
But no one is sure exactly what is happening here.

The men in V-neck tops are likely to be from some kind of team, though they seem older than you might expect footballers or rugby players to be.

Our other Argus archive pictures today both show streets in Brighton in the late Fifties, early Sixties.
While Bristol Gardens is recognisable, Tichborne Street in the North Laine is rather less so.
Note the great old cars in both pictures – no residents’ parking required in those days.
