A DRUG dealer was caught after DNA was found on a jacket left at an abandoned car after a police chase.
Lee Jones was selling crack cocaine in Brighton, and drugs worth £16,000 were found near the dumped car after the driver had sped away from officers.
While the 32-year-old thought he had escaped, his jacket at the scene in Findon Road revealed his DNA.
Then several months later another car failed to stop for officers, but as Jones tried to he was arrested in North Road. Heroin was found in the car and the packages had his DNA on.
Jones was also found with drugs and cash when police raided his home in Richmond Terrace.
At Lewes Crown Court he admitted being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine, being concerned in the supply of heroin and acquiring, using or possessing criminal property.
He was jailed for a total of seven years.
Sussex Police said the first incident happened at 2pm on February 14, 2019. A car failed to stop in Rottingdean and was later found dumped in Findon Road, Brighton.
Police found cannabis, and wraps of heroin and cocaine worth £16,000.
A jacket left at the scene was tested by forensics and Jones’s DNA was found. The drugs were also linked to him.
Then on October 4 the same year another car failed to stop in Queen’s Road, Brighton, and two men decamped and fled.
Jones was arrested in North Road. Pictures from the scene showed how a vehicle had crashed, forcing the suspects to flee.
Police found £2,500 in cash with Jones, and drugs in the car had his DNA on the packaging.
Then on November 2, 2020, police paid him a visit at his home in Richmond Terrace.
While officers were searching the premises, the defendant appeared at the front door. Next to him was a black bag containing a large quantity of heroin and cocaine. Around £2,650 in cash was found on his person.
Detective Mark Pinder said: “This was a lengthy and complex investigation and I would like to thank the officers involved in helping to secure this conviction.
“Those who cause harm in our communities by supplying illegal drugs will absolutely not be tolerated by Brighton and Hove Police. Our number one priority is keeping the public safe.
“We are pleased the court recognises the severity of these offences by serving Jones with a considerable custodial sentence and urge anyone with information about drug dealing to report it to us so we can take action.”
