IT’S A great picture from The Argus archive... but unfortunately we don’t know anything about it.
The women are all in some kind of uniform and it looks as if the two in front are having a scooter lesson under the watchful eye of the two behind. We’d love to know more.
The youngsters and snazzily dressed man watching the boats are at Aldrington basin near Shoreham, looking west. The power station chimneys can be seen in the distance.
This was taken in 1953. The vessel pictured is an “Isles” class armed trawler – possibly the Curzon which was based at Maxwell’s Wharf in the basin.
