A MAN has been arrested after a woman was assaulted in a park.
Police received a report of a woman being attacked in Alexandra Park in Hastings today, from a third party.
Officers searched the area and initially could not find the man or the woman.
After the victim and other witnesses came forward, police arrested a 26 year-old man from St Leonards on suspicion of a public order offence. He remained in custody this afternoon and the investigation is ongoing.
Hastings Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Aidan Cornwall said: “We were able to deploy officers to the location within 10 minutes of receiving the report.
"An area search was conducted but the victim and suspect were not located.
"Following excellent support from members of the public, officers were able to make a quick arrest.
“If anyone witnessed the assault or has any information to assist our investigation please make contact with us.”
