PLANS to build a two-bed house in a garden have been met with anger from neighbours.
The proposal is not the first by the owners of property in Hove Park Villas to covert a previous out-house in their garden.
The Argus has trawled through more than 1,800 planning applications made to Brighton and Hove City Council over the past six months.
By comparing the number of objections from the community, we can reveal these plans were the ninth most controversial.
Residents have criticised the plans on the council's online planning portal, saying the proposals are not in keeping with the area.
One said: "This is a beautiful road that should have been listed long ago. No other houses in the road have used gardens for housing, and as the garden is not large it would be very crammed.
"It would ruin the character of the road. None of the arguments in favour of this plan hold water."
Another said: "I live close by and already suffer noise pollution from the overcrowded and used outdoor garden space at this property.
"The beauty of this area is that the gardens do remain intact and have not yet been sub-divided to squeeze in more housing.
"Please let's not set a precedent.
"The gardens here are adequate in size, especially for being so central to Hove but are by no means large. Squeezing yet another property in at the end of this plot will just add to an already noisy garden and completely unbalance the house/garden ratio."
Not all residents were against the plans however, arguing it was a clever way to provide more housing.
One said: "Within the city, we are suffering a major housing crisis and the state of many flats and houses is far from good, insulation and mould problems are more usual than it should be.
"And this situation could be improving with dwellings and new and improved buildings like this one."
