Police officers responding to the incident have cordoned off part of Queens Road.
The force remains at the scene and a black tent has been erected outside Mr Leo barbers.
A spokeswoman for the force said: "The death is being treated as unexplained but it is not thought to be suspicious at this time."
The road has been partially closed while enquiries are carried out.
However, at about 8.45am the spokeswoman said: "Road closures are due to be stood down and police would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding."
North Street is open as normal and public transport is still using the route.
But, earlier this morning, Brighton and Hove Buses warned that it is unable to serve Queen’s Road.
A spokesman said: “BH6 are using Montpellier Road and 7 Dials in both directions.
“All other services that use Queens Road are using Imperial Arcade, Buckingham Road and Upper Gloucester Road in both directions.”
Several people trying to use the Clock Tower bus stop have been told to find alternative routes by police at the scene.
The usually busy road leading from the city centre towards Brighton Station is now “eerily quiet”.
One passerby said: “I’m not sure what’s happened, some kind of incident.
“They were just setting the tape out when I got here, and that was about 20 minutes ago.”

Another said: “They’ve completely blocked off the bottom of Queens Road, so it must be something serious.
“There are a load of officers inside a cordon, telling people to find another way around.
“They’ve put a black tent up outside a barbers, but I don’t know why.”
