STORMS have been causing havoc on our seafront for as long as anyone can remember.
Today’s Argus archive picture of Hove prom, dated around 1953, was taken close to what is now David Gilmour’s much-talked about house. At that time it was Medina House.
There is more sea drama in the shot of Newhaven Harbour, taken around 1952 – the boat on the left appears to be sinking.

The Shoreham Cement Works at Upper Beeding, pictured in about 1949, don’t really look much different to today. The site closed in 1993 and has been derelict ever since.
Finally today we have a great shot of Bevendean School under construction in 1950. We believe Norwich Drive is behind the scaffolding on the left.
